Why I Started this Blog

My honest answer to the question: "What am I doing?"

My Approach to Blogging 💻

Blogging is an interesting point of conversation since I don't fully consider myself as a "blogger." I mostly see myself as just another student who loves to share stories and personal insights with others. I'm honestly no expert in any field as of now but I strongly believe everyone brings something to the table!

There's also a stereotype of bloggers that captures a bubbly, energetic, fashion/beauty-oriented individual- I believe they're amazing and there are so many I look up to! But I never found myself fitting into that box myself. Rather, I found myself writing and talking about passion projects, at-times depressing world issues (I'm a true GenZ what can I say), trips, and business-related topics, which is equally as important. I sense that there's a lack of girls in the business and tech realm of blogging- I wanted to be one of the growing many to fill that gap! And PSA, it's not always "positive" and "success" 24/7! The business world has a lot of ups and downs, triumphs and tribulations, and I think it's more useful to be honest and optimistic when approaching these subjects.

That said, I also think it's important to share my failures. Mistakes are part of the learning process and I think it's equally as important to share what NOT to do in addition to my list of tips and tricks.

Travel & Business ✈️💼

During my freshman year at Rutgers University, I was exposed to so many amazing people and opportunities! I always felt trapped in high school since I've always wanted to be independent and surround myself with people who were just as ambitious as me. I spent a lot of time getting involved with student-run organizations as much as possible and using all the resources the business school could give me.

I also travelled twice during my Freshman year to South Korea and California, and would have gone to more places during the Spring before quarantine started. But during and after that time, a lot of my friends would ask me how I was so involved and got to travel as a student (you can find my answer here)! If they were interested, certainly others would be too, right?

Throwing aside any doubts and sense of imposter syndrome, I just sat down, started writing, and designing website as you see it now.

What's with the name janicenotes.com?

1. I love documenting things and writing things I've learned into notebooks. I wanted the name to give off the vibes that this site was a place where everyone could see my raw thoughts in the form of "notes," or blog posts.

2. It's also partially inspired by gatesnotes.com, one of my favourite blogs! It's where Bill Gates talks about World Health, his book reviews, and what he's up to. I would definitely call him and Melinda Gates my role models and I strive to grow my blog like his.

The Bottom Line

I started this blog because I always had a passion for writing and sharing ideas. I was never the smartest nor best writer in the classroom but I've always appreciated someone with a passion and those who can explain big ideas in a simple manner. My goal is not to become the best writer but to inspire and help guide readers- like you!

My Blog Content as of Now

It's currently August 2020. Since travel opportunities are restricted I will most likely be posting about business content and previous travel experiences. I'm always open to conversation and answering questions so feel free to shoot me an email if you ever need help!
